How To Access

By train
Please leave the train at Nagasu Station of the JR Kagoshima Main Line.
It takes about 60 minutes from Hakata Station by the limited express.

By ship
Please leave the ship at Port Nagasu Station of the Ariake Ferry.
It takes about 45 minutes from Port Taira in Nagasaki Prefecture.

By car
It takes about 40 minutes from Nankan or Kikusui of the Kyushu Highway.
By bus
Please get on the express bus, Ariake, at Kumamoto Transportation Center in Kumamoto City and leave the bus at Port Nagasu Station. It takes about 80 minutes.
 
 

                   Nagasu Town Tourist Information -- Festival --

Hamayumisai (Mato-bakai)

This festival is a traditional event of Shiouji Shrine with having a history of around 800 years. It is held on January 15 every year. It features a naked festival for brave men. Young people wearing a loincloth squeeze and scramble for a Mato(target) in the shape of a circle in the precincts, on the road and in the Ariake Sea. After the event, the Mato divided among people. It will then be used as a charm for sound health and safety.

Kingyo To Koi No Satomaturi
(Hometown Festival of Goldfish and Japanese Carp )

This festival is one of our festival of the year. It is held from the feature of Nagasu which is recomend of  "Hometown of Goldfish and Japanese Carp" since 1988. This event attracts people from around Japan every to come to Nagasu. The visitors can always find goldfish and Japanese carp, goldfish scooping booths selling special produets of neighboring cities. 

When : the last Sunday in October( ever year)

Noshikora-Sai (Noshikora Festival)

It is held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the merger, we have expanded our annual summer festival and named it the "Noshikora Festival". Noshikora means overcoming hardships in the times.It is quoted from a musical accompaniment word in an old folk song that was handed down from generation to generation such as. We prepare many attractions for this festival. Such as dance, performance of the drums, Karaoke, parade of decorated shrines in the shape of a goldfish, fireworks, etc. Goldfish shape-decorated shrine racing is the most attractive during festival .

          Nagasu Town Tourist Information -- History and Culture --

Gaku (music) and Kagura (music and dance)
of Haraaka Tenman Shrine

Although the time when the music of Tenma Shrine started is unknown, its history is old. It is performed by using pipes, drums, and samisen. Kagura is famous in Onigami (the fierce god) with hading down from Tomio in Tamana City in 1887. It has 11 kinds, including shoukagura, etc..
